For me, the big indicator will be what kind of games they have in the Wii U's second year.
Your argument seems solid, but is actually flawed.
Please note the corporate entity called microsoft has had a huge flop with Windows 8, their net profit is mostly due to their game console.
The same goes for Sony - their game console division is actually keeping the rest of the company afloat.
If anything, it seems the 'huge corporate entities' that don't involve gaming are bringing the consoles down, instead of supporting them through lean years.
