I have a hard time believing you've played many RPGs if you think that highly of TLS.
I bought the game for €40 after hearing some people rave about it and I had to force myself to complete it not long after starting it, the entire game screams mediocrity.
The battle system (on both manual and auto) is incredibly simplistic and doesn't allow for much strategy except dodging even at the end of the game.
The graphics are all over the place, slowdown happens even when you are just exploring the town and only one character is on the screen but during battles I've had it drop to about 10-5fps on a regular basis (I'm not kidding). Aside from the slowdown the game also looks very bland, few colors and not much that really defines the world or gives it character. The small world and small number of different enemy models are also not making things better.
The music is not anything special, as a big VG Music lover myself I never felt compelled to listen to this soundtrack outside of the game. I even found myself getting annoyed at the start up and title screen music because it didn't do anything for me at all.
The story is about as predictable and cliche as it gets but I can live with that, it just doesn't help a game that is already mediocre (or bad) in every other area. At least the characters have some personality but only a select few get more fleshed out. In the end I still didn't care for the majority of the cast, including the main character.
Sorry for the rant, I am aware that this is entirely my opinion but I'm still having a hard time believing ANYONE would find TLS a good game.
