Doesn't the Wii U do that too?

Yes, as well as just about every modern gaming device.

If they were going to take VC seriously, it would be on PC anyways with lesser builds being on home consoles and potatoes. Nintendo obviously doesnt take the VC seriously though, at all really. The Wii VC was a cluster**** interface, without any added features as well such as enhanced graphics or online play.

Crazy, I'm guessing phone.

They are realizing the world is changing. They are a little slow. I remember when they said there was no future for videogame consoles having internet access.

Believe it or not many people like the fact they can play old games they haven't owned in years again in their original format, without enhanced graphics or any of that crap.

He's delusional if he thinks Nintendo will survive long enough to make a new platform. Wii U is bankrupting them.

Really so a profitable year with no lay-offs or building sales and tons of money in the bank = Nintendoooomed

Judging from the quote, nothing anytime soon. Even said, not now, because the company would be stretched too thin. This is something five years from now, not tomorrow, or even next year.

They didn't merge their hardware development, its a software merger. The hardware designers for Nintendo already work on bith consoles and handhelds.

I believe this merge will give us awesome levels and abilities within crossplay, beyond FFCC, or PSA.

The closest to a "third pillar" I see is a 3DS revision, with dual circle pads that may become clickable due to a lack of shouldar triggers. It will better emulate the gamepad layout to promote and encourage console experiences on a handheld, which smartphones cannot offer.

I don't think you all should be getting hype for a new console, as this article doesn't indicate such.
