What did Wii end up having? the best game in about 3 genres? 2 genres in which Nintendo win EVERY gen. (2d and 3D platformers)

Though Rayman Origins>>>NSMBWii and Donkey Kong. And RPG is debatable. JRPG? sure, RPG? Very debtable.

Now put it this way. Get every genre... and get the top 5 games of those genres.

Yeah. weak console or not. Wii was the worst system last gen. No 2 ways about it.

Just out of curiosity, can you list the great games that us Wii owners missed out on? I want to know what I missed to see if it was a good decision for me or not. Loved my Wii and am loving my Wii U, but I I just want to know what I missed.

The Ezio Trilogy.
Soul Calibur 5
DoA5
UMvC3
Hitman Absolution

That's about it actually.

Assassin's Creed 2 was pretty good

Soul Calibur 5 was a massive disappointment

DoA5 is great

UMvC3? Please tell me you're joking

Hitman Absolution is a disappointment in the franchise.

SC5 was good for what it was. I didn't go into it expecting it to be amazing.
I went into it expecting something as bad as 3 or 4, and got something slightly better than 3. So I was impressed.

UMvC3 was good. It's what MvC3 SHOULD have been. I felt like a sucker buying MvC3.

Hitman Absolution was great. I don't like how it streamlined everything, and brought in more useless TPS elements (point shooting for instance). But it was still great. Better than Hitman 2? A little, not by much. As good as Blood Money? No.

And AC2 (that counts Brotherhood and Revs. Those are DLC... really expensive DLC... on disc... separate discs...) was amazing. I think it might be one of the best series of last gen. And I hate to see it end. I'd like a fourth game that takes place in Post-Boer war Ireland.

I'll also give mention to MGS4, and Assault on Dark Athena. MGS4 needs no introduction. Assault on Dark Athena, while the actual game itself is meh, it comes with Escape from Butcher Bay, which kicked some serious ass, and is definitely worth playing the hell out of.

I understand that Wii games have won awards and a lot of people do enjoy them but I also feel that having a wide variety of each genre is important.

Someone mentioned TvC before. While it is a great game and he/she felt it was the best fighting game I still feel that it sucks to miss out on SF IV, UMvC 3, and the Blazblue series. That's just one genre. When you take the number of great games on the Wii and compare it the number of great games on the PS3 or the 360, the Wii's library is incredibly small.

But this is just me crying over spilled milk. The Wii U has been doing a pretty good job trying to get mOre third party support this time and I can't wait to see what gets announced this coming year.

Nobody misses out on Arksys games.
I'm glad I never got to play Persona 4 Arena. I fear it might be as bad as Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, or Fist of the North Star.

Wii only owners should consider themselves lucky they didn't get that trash.

If you dont care about graphics then why dont you just play NES games? They are cheap, and Im sure there are a ton of great ones that you havent played yet.

Get it? Power is VERY important. Power is the very thing that allows games to do more than they could in the past. More complex physics, things like that. It all takes power.

If the PS4 is significantly more powerful than the U, which I really believe it will be since I know a lot about modern PC hardware, the graphics arent the only thing that will be better. Every single thing about a game needs power. If there is more power, the games can do more, not just look better.

It seems to me that when people spend money on a console that turns out to be weak, they try to make themselves feel better by pretending power is not important. I bought a U too and I know its weak. Im sure there will be some great games on it, but I know damn well all of those games could be even better if there were more power. Especially something like a Zelda game. Imagine being able to run through Hyrule field and every blade of grass reacts to the wind and Link running through it. Seeing every leaf on a tree blow in the wind dynamically. This is something possible on modern PCs, but not on the U. The processor isnt nearly strong enough and the reason is that they didnt want this thing to be $500. Plus it has a gamepad controller which isnt all that cheap for them to produce, so they had to cut processing power to do it.

Or perhaps they don't care.

It's just a thought, really.

That's such a foolish thing to say because no matter how much you didn't enjoy those games the fact is there is a market and community for those series. The more variety of games you offer the more attractive your system is to the consumer. Why would anybody not want to have a choice of multiple great games and instead choose to let a company minimize the choices available to them?

last gen's best RPG: Xenoblade-Debatable, but can be right
last gen's best 3D Platformer: Galaxy/Galaxy 2-Agree
last gen's best Survival Horror: Project Zero 2 (remake)-Amnesia disagrees
last gen's best 2D Platformer(s): DKC:R/NSMBW-I'd argue LittleBigPlanet was the best one last gen

Because people want to play the latest games regardless if the system its on is a power buster or not. Not see how plastic and shinny their characters can look. Otherwise Sony would of dominated sales-wise.

The only RPG from last gen I would play over Xenoblade would be Lost Odyssey. Blue Dragon and 3D Dot Game Heroes would be right underneath Xenoblade.

I wouldn't even count LBP as a platformer because all the fun to be had in that game was the creator content, which is always a big hit when done right. The actual gameplay though? very mediocre when compared to DK or Rayman
