Maybe Rayman doesn't matter, but the situation itself does. The Wii U is hurting right now. Ever since the system launched on November 18th, we've had 0 releases outside of the launch day games. That's 3 months of nothing, with very little on the horizon. Yes, there's Lego City and Monster Hunter, but do you really, truly, expect those to stay exclusive to the Wii U? Well, Monster Hunter is a 3DS release as well which a ton more people own. So that's Nintendo competing with themselves which is stupid.

Lego City is, yes, published by Nintendo but that didn't stop Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge from making the jump to XBox 360 and PlayStation 3. Also if the PlayStation 4 and XBox "720" truly are similar in specs, then that's what developers will work with primarily, it'll become the standard. They'd have to manually downgrade games to make them work with the Wii U, not to mention add touch screen and off tv play. That is a lot of man hours, man hours they may not want to use. So the Wii U is in a dire situation, and Nintendo will have to work their asses off if they want to keep the Wii U relevant. This is what happened to the Wii and its doing terribly too.

Not if their development kits become the standard of the industry. They'd murder the Wii U.

Besides Wii U does not have the backing that the Wii did. The Wii sold to casual who only wanted to dip their feet into the market, but weren't staying for the long term. They don't give a rats' furry ass about Rayman or Mario or Monster Hunter. The casuals bought for things like Wii Sports/Resort, Wii Fit/Plus, and they will not upgrade just to get Wii Fit U or Wii U Party. They're happy with what they have and don't see some desire to upgrade.

The Wii U is not selling to nongamers that made up the bulk of purchases with Wii.
