Fun/Mindblowing facts about Nintendo franchises

You know those "robot boots" that the Star Fox team wears? Yeah, those aren't boots. The team had their legs amputated and replaced with robotic limbs. This is apparently to prevent issues that arise from blood flowing to the legs when exposed to high G-forces. This shouldn't present too much of a problem thanks to the Arwing's "G-Diffuser System", but I'll bet Falco's sure glad that he took precautions.

Ridley is named after Ridley Scott as Metroid is a homage to Aliens.

Cleffairy was the original pokemon with Cleffable & Gengar, Gangar infact being Cleffables shadow.

Kirby is nothing more than a beta stand in for something else that never got replaced.

Yoshi is the Goomba's Shoe, or more accurately the Goomba's Shoe was Nintendo 1st attempt at Yoshi in game.

Peppy's phrase Do a Barrel Roll is wrong, He should be shouting Do a Aileron Roll because that is the aerial maneuver you are doing.

Ocarina of Time where supposed to have a Wind Temple & Ice Temple, only part of the Ice Temple was ever built.

Star Fox was originally just a tech demo for the SuperFX chip, but it was too awesome to stay that way.

Mario Kart 64 was originally named Mario R, but had to be changed because of similar name Sonic R released shortly before it.

Super Smash Bros for N64 was originally supposed to be a Japanese-only release, but was translated into English due to unexpectedly high demand in Japan.

SNES release gained the attention of the Yakuza, leading to a decision to ship the devices at night to avoid robbery.

Magikoopa was originally a selectable character in Mario Kart R, but he was replaced by DK whose popularity had risen [enough in Japan] since Rare's DKC.

An early build of GoldenEye 007 only allowed the player to carry two weapons at a time. Picking a weapon up would swap it with the one in your hand. People who tried the game didn't like this arbitrary limit. Ironically, these days you can't walk five feet without stepping on a FPS game that has a 2 weapon limit.

I learned all this due to my subscription to Game Player's Magazine. F*** yeah!

These days, all the kids are playing M rated games while the adults are lining up for Pokemon. Which game is a kid's game now?

You know those rumors that say Mario/Luigi's last name is "Mario Mario" or "Luigi Mario" right?

Place your fingers over the letters that DON'T have eyes on them. It almost looks like it says "Luigi Mario".

This in turn is the reason for Gengar's name, which was probably originally intended to be Gänger (pronounced "genger"). He's Clefable's doppelgänger.

Speaking of Pokemon, Slakoth's eyes are Pokeballs: http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/d/d2/287Slakoth.png

It's one of those "only mostly canon" things. The bit about them being legitimate robot legs after amputation was "confirmed" in Nintendo Power. The reasoning behind it is based on real life facts rather than anything said by Nintendo.
