I had no idea about this. But I'm so glad it didn't happen. I would've hated it. I'm a die-hard nintendo fan, but I've always loved sonic as well. I mainly bought all of my sega systems just to play sonic. If this had happened it meant I would have had to buy microsoft's systems too! No thanks. I've never been interested in xbox.

Anyway, I think nintendo should buy sega. It just seems like a better fit. Watch this:

Back then I would have been okay with it. The original Xbox is a great piece of hardware for it's generation but after seeing what happened to Rareware, I'm so glad that never happened. I would love for Nintendo to buy them.

The TC makes no sense. Compete with who again? Microsoft has the XBox brand and make Microsoft Windows, the OS the vast majority of PC games run on.

Why would a 3rd party studio acquisition number X suddenly just now make them a competitior?

Did you read the article? It talks about Microsoft planning on buying SEGA before they made the original XBox. Meaning to compete with the PS2 and the GameCube, they nearly bought SEGA to basically become what MS's Xbox teams are today. Meaning had this happened, Sonic, Jet Set Radio, Powerstone, Space Channel 5, Shenmue, and whatever other gems SEGA owned back then would all be 1st party Microsoft titles, and the entire gaming industry would be radically different. Halo probably wouldn't be a thing, or the rise of First Person Shooters in general, and the "Hardcore vs. Casual" thing would never have been an issue. Heck, the PS3 might not have been as powerful, as it wouldn't have needed to match or surpass the 360, and Wii would have been more of a gamers console as it recieved so much more multiplats.

If you think about how radically everything would have changed... wow. I wish it would have happened, tbh. Shenmue? Powerstone? Jet Set? Imagine if those were the big budget games we were seeing every so often from Microsoft. I would be ecstatic.

Or they could have bought it and killed it like they did with Rare. If you think Shadow the hedgehog was bad (which I don't btw I actually like it) then imagine more of that only bigger guns and more realistic gore. Who wants to see sonic have an AK-47?

Um, Sega didn't make powerstone. Capcom did.

Yes, but it was a SEGA exclusive. Kinda like Kingdom Hearts, Ratchet and Clank, and Metal Gear are for Sony. Big exclusives that are system movers.

Sorry, I guess I worded that wrong.

A lot of shooter fans. In-fact they want to see every major franchise character to sport some form of gun.

That was supposed to be rhetorical but if this is true I think they have an addiction.

Sega enlisted Microsoft's help with the Dreamcast much like Nintendo did with Sony for the SNES. After Sega fell into obscurity, Microsoft saw an opportunity and acquired several workers who helped create the Dreamcast. Adamant to defeat the juggernaut of that time, being Sony, they thought their best bet would be to acquire someone who was familiar with the industry. After talking with Sega they attempted to purchase Nintendo with no results.
