For me it means

Someone who plays videogames and enjoys all that he plays no matter what console it's on.

Looking through this board, everyone seems to have different view to its meaning.

I have a similar meaning; anyone who plays games on a regular basis.

In my opinion a "gamer" is someone who is passionate about the hobby and the experiences that the media itself can bring to him or her.

Not to be confused with people who play like 1 or 2 blockbuster games with all their friends and call themselves a gamer, meanwhile not knowing the difference between a multiplat and an exclusive lol.

Well there a couple type of gamers. You have the type of people who bought into the Wii hype for tacked on motion controls. You have people who play Angry Birds and facebook games. So i wouldnt consider some who plays wii and smart phone games a real gamer. The other side is someone who plays on all systems and doesnt pick a side. I know playing other systems is foreign to people on this board though. People who have been playing for a long time. Ive been playing since commodore 64 and have almost every major console minus Wii U.

That's not really a fair accusation. I've seen several people limit themselves to one or two games out of choice, examples would be someone who plays only SSF4, Starcraft, or FIFA only because they solely enjoy that particular type of gaming experience. I reckon those type of people can be considered gamers. That's like saying someone isn't an athlete because they only play one sport.

That's a very wrong, ideal definition. Absolutely no one enjoys every single game they play. Anyway, the most common definition is that a gamer is someone who plays games on a somewhat fairly regular basis. Or in other words, people who have gaming as a hobby. Compare it to this. Just because someone plays tennis a few times a year, it doesn't mean tennis is their hobby.

Pretty much. Some gamers dedicate themselves to just a few games or types of games. Others a broad amount. And his definition just isn't right for 'gamer'. It's a definition for 'hardcore gamer'. Casual gamers are still gamers, but the majority of them isn't passionate about gaming at all.
