Well I'm sure you love paying over $100 to get a complete gaming experience then. If anyone still understands the fundamental essence of video games it's Nintendo. Motion controls are the one of the next logical steps in gaming, prettier graphics don't offer anything to the gaming experience.

Graphics aren't that important, but saying they don't add anything at all would be wrong.

I meant to say at this point in time/in this day and age, hence prettier

Nintendo led to the rise of Sony's and likely Microsoft's gaming sections, so I suppose that was the biggest 'help', but that also led to the *****ing and moaning and console warring for the rest of time, so that hurt gaming.

I don't know if I'd put the blame on Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft for the warring though, that's the consumer's being hyperactive.
Best console war summary ever. TL;DR version at 2:05.

D. Motion controls are awesome, and the worst you can accuse Ninty of is making games you don't care for.
The writing was on the wall with Bioware the minute you could completely void all of your decisions with one choice in KOTOR.

Having gaming with motion controls > No gaming at all
Keep calm and hee-ho

Nintendo has not hurt or helped gaming. It's a player in the field. It has "helped" gaming in that a lot of people like Nintendo games. But they have affected the industry widely in any way. I will say that they have been going steadily downhill since the SNES, but that is a company-wide comment, not industry-wide.
Are we not drawn onward, we few? Drawn onward to new era?

The Wii made gaming accessible to many more people than ever before, due to motion control, the thing that you're saying was it's biggest con.
Alundra is the best top-down Zelda game since Link to the Past.
Darksiders is the best 3D Zelda game since Ocarina of Time.

Nintendo are holding gaming back.
