Nintendo pulled a "Sega Saturn" by releasing the Wii U so early

seems like most people are waiting out on more information on the PS4 and the Nextbox before committing to this system.

i dont think it was a good idea to release it so early. I think it wouldve been a better idea to release a little later with games like Smash Bros.

The system looks rushed

Saturn was one of my favorite systems. It actually had good graphics for the time and lots of games too.

I believe it is rushed. If they had released the system with a proper Mario game and then released a Smash Bros within 3 months of launch I think things would be different.

GC launched and had a good lineup of great launch games, Rogue Leader II being an exceptional title. Smash Bros Melee came out a mere 3 months later and it was THE killer app for the system.

The Wii U at this point lacks a killer app to drive hardware sales.

Not really... The problem with the Sega Saturn was it was released too soon after the 32X and then in turn wasn't supported long enough before the release of the Dreamcast.

The problem with Sega's systems wasn't releasing too soon before the competition, it was releasing too soon after their own last system.

Smash was released within weeks of the Gamecube's NA launch.

You're right though. The Wii U does lack a killer app. Nintendo didn't plan the early days of the Wii U very well.

I'm not changing this until a new Jet Set Radio is announced. Started 10/13/11

I don't think you know exactly what the Saturn failed, the Wii U is not suffering from the same issue. The Saturn crashed and burned because Sega pulled a "surprise!!!" release and quite literally released it four months earlier then planned without telling any developer working on it, thus releasing it with a couple of games and nothing else for months. The Wii U may only be getting a slow trickle of games, but it certainly isn't as bad as it was for the Saturn.
