Nintendo going third party would be bad.

The reason Nintendo can pump out the games people love is because it has multiple studios under its wing. Lets list a few-

1-UP
Monolift
HAL
Intelligent Systems
Retro
Sora Ltd
AlphaDream
Camelot
Game Freak

As a third party company, you can't guarantee that Nintendo will keep these studios and therefore might produce less games. So what could possibly be good about Nintendo producing less games.

Absolutely nothing good will come of it.

I feel as if Nintendo is a major pillar in the gaming industry.
It'll be ok for the moment but growing industry cracks will be seriously visible that will cause devastation later on.

For every 1 hardcore gamer there is at least 10 gamers and for every 1 gamer there is probably 5 casual gamers.

The hardcore can't support things on their own.
Gamers will feel more and more stress as time progresses.
Casuals will slowly fade away.

Everything will come crashing down.

Casuals might be the least respected "gamer" but they are vital to the industry.

That's too fatalist, don't you think?

People will continue to play games be they "casual" or "hardcore" all that will change is where they play their games. A few decades ago nobody could imagine Atari would die and that Nintendo would replace them. We're now in a spot where Nintentdo may or may not quit the console market after the WiiU is done (I think they won't quit.) so I can assure you people will adapt to the next thing, they've done it before.

the whole nintendo going 3rd party argument is more about wanting nintendo to stop making console then anything else. would you buy a wii u if it was made by someone else and nintendo game didn't exist.

If you kill the nintendo hardware you kill the nintendo name and everything with it.
Nintendo said if they stop making consoles they stop making games.

What? How does being a third party developer mean they wouldn't produce as many games or have as many studios? In fact since they would be able to develop for additional platforms, if anything they would establish more development studios for the new markets they'd be covering.

I tend to not agree with such sensationalism but this is pretty true. The self-proclaimed "hardcore" gamers are but a small fraction of the industry.

These days, all the kids are playing M rated games while the adults are lining up for Pokemon. Which game is a kid's game now?

Yeah, Sega and 3DO are the biggest third parties out there! Whatever.

Because Nintendo is clearly in the same financial state as those two companies were when they were producing hardware.
