The concept that the Wii U is neither last gen or next gen is an interesting one.A stop gap if you will ala 32X and Dreamcast.

32X was an addon, Dreamcast was a next generation console.

Changed his mind or not, it's still a valid opinion, Wii U won't compete against PS3 or 360 and both of those are getting "next gen" consoles possibly this year. So where does that leave Nintendo? they've entered properly this gen with the Wii U just as Sony and MS are leaving it. So what.. next year are we getting the Wii U2 to compete against the PS4 and 720?

360 released a year before Wii and PS3. Wii U will compete with PS4/720 the same way 360 did.

Power doesn't define a generation. A generation is just the next step. Its based off time.

Nintendo figured out 2 generations ago that trying to compete with Microsoft and Sony on console horsepower is a futile battle. The concept of the Wii/Wii U isn't about what's on-screen, but how you interact with what's on-screen. Nintendo's ace will always be their first-party exclusives, as long as Mario/Zelda/ Mario Kart/Pokemon etc etc are relevant their will always be a place for them in the gaming world. Had Nintendo put 'next gen' horsepower ala xbox 720/Ps4 into the Wii U along with the gamepad you'd be looking at a $500 + console which would be deemed too expensive by the masses.
