I hate it when people compare the wii u to dreamcast

The dreamcast had one of the best launches of all time and afterwards it had some incredible games including one of my all time favorites skies of arcadia. Wii u has none of this going for it. If anything the wii u is like the saturn launched at a awful time to near obscurity and it completely lacked 3rd party support as most companies were busy focusing on the playstation. It was overpriced and was not a jump technology that warranted being purchased by most

If that's so then we really shouldn't see that many ports.

I heard the Saturn was not an easy machine to work with.

I've never heard of the Wii U being compared to the Dreamcast

Not changing this sig until we get a new main series Tales game released on a Nintendo console in the US

I completely agree with the bit about the Dreamcast but I disagree with most of the Wii U part and the comparison to Saturn is a bit off.

The Saturn first off was around the level of PS1 power wise but was very hard to develop for. The Wii U is in the range of end of life 360/PS3 graphics (currently) the same way Wii was for GC and Xbox when it launched but unlike Wii and even more so for Saturn, Wii U is way easier to develop for. It's the reason why so many 3rd parties put their B team ports on the system. Also while the 3rd party support hasn't been the greatest, so far, it has actually been better then both Saturn AND Dreamcast. Sure there are a lot of ports of games by the B teams but most of those are ports of really big games that saw the hype train on other systems and are still good games on the Wii U and the Japanese and indie support has been much better then anticipated.

With that said, I agree that the system is a bit on the pricey side for what you get, which I figured this would be the case for many as they definitely moved out of the sweet spot. $250 for basic and $300 deluxe is imo where they should be. As for advertising I also agree that they do need better. Granted the advertisement is there, it's just really bad.

I enjoyed the Dreamcast, but in hindsight it was a glorified PSone and N64, and was riddled with ports. They were nice ports, but it did not get march third part support besides capcom. It did not get support from EA, and frankly it was easy to pirate. Add in the fact that the PS2 was around the corner, most decided to wait. It was a perfect storm really.

As for the wii U, I think it will be fine despite being the weakest of the 3 most likely, because it has amazing first party support, something that Sega did not have with the Dreamcast. I also think the failure of the Sega Saturn left people with a valid reason to wait on the Dreamcast.

Any system that launches with Soul Calibur already is a step ahead of the rest.

I would agree , except Dreamcast was out almost a year when Soul Caliber was released.
