is that a barebones console can basically do nothing. You still have to buy games before you get to use it, and the more 'use' you want out of it, the more you have to spend.

Compare that with a new laptop, phone or tablet. You can do everything you want right from the start, instead of pouring even more money in to just use it for the thing you bought the hardware for in the first place.

Now I'm not saying developers like Nintendo should make all their games free of charge and release right away. But buying a new console requires a lot of 'trust' in the developer and the console's future.

Apple and Android stores game do cost money though
and the devices are much more expensive
for ex. new gaming pc should take around $1200 if you don't want to upgrade it every 4 months or so
and Nintendo does have history of having good games
last 3 generation, N64 Gamecube Wii, all had great librarys whether or not trolls will admit it or not.

Those stores offer a lot more than just games. Besides, everything on my phone is 100% free. On the Android Store, every app has some kind of free version. Paid-only games are more the exception than the norm.

If I buy a new phone, it is a big investment first, but then I'm basically done. I can do everything I want with it right from the start.

If a console has more multimedia options, then the launch will go way more smooth.
