How does Nintendo TVii even work?

Well... you have to have a cable box/satellite box hooked up to your television, in which you must pay for the television channels.

You don't actually need a cable box. Just look up your cable provider, and set the remote connection to your TV. Basically it just allows you to view all of the shows that will be coming on/when they'll be on (and what channel), and it allows you to simply tap on them to turn to the channel. It's basically a universal remote mixed with a TV guide.

For example, if I search "CSI:NY" it'll show me all of the channels that air it, it'll show me what day and time it is on, and if it is on right now, I can click on which channel I want to watch it on. You don't need a cable box or anything, simply because it runs off of your cable provider's TV guide/information.
