I don't understand why people decry the Wii remote and GamePad as "gimmicks"

Nintendo has a history of trying to force gimmicks, with varying degrees of success. Someone's already mentioned the Power Glove. Robot Operation Buddy, The Zapper, Virtual Boy...the Wiimote and the GamePad are just the latest iterations of the Nintendo Gimmick.

The Wiimote is a gimmick to me because it takes away from the experience in a lot of games. Games like Wii Sports are a lot of fun and use them well, but it just makes the experience worse when they try and tack it onto other games like Zelda. But better visuals and more cpu power never get in the way of making the game enjoyable.
