Are people stupid?

The Wii-U is Nintendo's console.

The Vita is a handheld.

The Wii-U failing would hurt Nintendo a hell of a lot more than the Vita failing for Sony.

Vita is a handheld. If Sony works the right companies, they can pick it up in Japan if nowhere else. That would carry the Vita. If the Wii U doesn't pick up, it'll be harder for a home console to make it back without steep price cuts and some games that aren't just straight ports with maps on the gamepad. They have the 3DS for that.

So in my opinion, the Vita has the better chance to recover, with the right games faster than the Wii U. But Nintendo is a stronger brand in Japan, and has more history. That's why Nintendo pimped Mario on the 3DS to boost sales, but Mario is the only thing that will save the Wii U right now.

I agree completely., But also, you need to take into account that the PS3 was hurting Sony financially already while the Wii basically filled Nintendo's bank accounts. Sony's already in financial trouble, so that's why people think the failure of the Vita is going to hut. Add that in with a failure from the PS4, or at least an inability to break even with what they're spending and Sony could be done. And thats sad news for me as I owned a PS3 this generation with my Wii and I was planning on getting the PS4 over the next XBox as well.

Nintendo's cash reserve means jack squat if they have no substantial income. They'll be eating into it to compensate for lack of Wii U sales and consequently a lack of game sales.

The only Pony they have that is in good shape is the 3DS. It can't haul around the whole company or compensate for the Wii U's under-performance.

Yeah, they can have trillions of dollars, but if one console fails, they're done for!

Kid, please learn how business works, OK? OK.

They don't have trillions of dollars, Buddy Boy.
And no amount of cash reserves is a substitute for income.

That's real business, you Junior League armchair economist.

Aw, cute, you think you're saying something super smart, even though your argument amounts to "If this fails, they'll have to spend MONEY!!!". Kid, they're sitting on 2nd and 5th best selling system money with no debt. If the Wii U flops, no skin off their nose.

Pretending my points aren't valid, doesn't actually make them invalid, Sally.

The Wii U wasn't brought to market for free. They have to make that up or take it as a loss. Bringing a console to market costs money.

Yes, I'm sure Nintendo won't panic if the Wii U flops. That's totally realistic.

Sony doesn't have nearly as much riding on the success of the Vita.

I vote Wii U.

Seriously

We're comparing a new handheld failing to a new console

One's failing is clearly a bit more important than the other

Not true at all. Income itself isn't the key - it's profit. Nintendo could take a $250 million loss every year until 2053 and would survive just on cash on hand, without incurring debt or needing to sell assets.

Sony's already selling their HQ buildings.

The only Pony they have that is in good shape is the 3DS. It can't haul around the whole company or compensate for the Wii U's under-performance.

It doesn't have to.

Dude, that's just double-speak. Of course it's profit, but if you have no income, you have no profit. You cannot profit from taking in....nothing. And if you are having to spend your reserve, then you are definitely not profiting.

Sony sold a single administrative building. That's no big deal, and it won them investor confidence.

If the Wii U fails, the 3DS will be all they have.
