Is it safe to say Nintendo will not win this generation?

They won the last gen. But before that during GC and n64 they were firmly at the bottom of the barrel.

But it looks they are once again at the bottom of the barrel again.

2+2 does in fact equal fish f=6 i=9 s=19 h=8 so F+I-S+H=4=2=2

Since the only way to answer this is with wild, unfounded speculation, I'd say that it's pretty clear that Nintendo will lose this gen spectacularly and switch gears to become the world's most popular producer of prepackaged chicken tikka masala spices.

I think it's fairly safe to say that they will win. Launching early and being cheap is what wins and they've done both. Last gen they didn't even launch early and still won by a lot.

If Wii U's sales are down from Wii U, I suspect you'll find PS4 and XBox 3 will fall even more.

Not commenting on your actual question, but... uh... N64, bottom of the barrel? Jaguar, 3D0? Sega Saturn? It was firmly second. It was second by a long shot, but it was second.

As for the GCN, it did end up third, yes, but it was over a long period, and only toward the end that the Xbox surpassed, it, and not by much. And then there's Dreamcast...

I'm not a fan of either system, but "firmly at the bottom of the barrel" isn't quite accurate.

Umm Sega launched their console before PS2 and went out of business. Your logic is horrible. Like fanboy horrible.

Last gen they had a gimmick. This gen their gimmick is already old. Tablets were mainstream long before the Wii U came out.

In sales? Probably not.
In quality library? Almost certainly not.

Uh, they didn't go out of business, Sega very much still exists. Also, Dreamcast wasn't all that cheap.

However, it's true that there is slightly more to the hardware race than early and cheap. There's also momentum. Sega had literally the worst momentum ever after the colossal failure that was Saturn. On the flip side, PS2 had all the momentum in the world, as well as being fairly early and fairly cheap, and absolutely no one could stand against it.

However, momentum can be lost (see also PS3), and momentum favours Nintendo this generation anyway.

Your question was terrible from the beginning since the other two consoles are not even out. Wii U does seem to be in a bad place right now, thats fact though.
