They do get paid for shipping them. It's essentially the number that they've sold to stores, as opposed to the number the stores sold to consumers.

I think you missed a decimal point. 50,000 = 0.05 million. So 3 million + 50,000 = 3.05 million.

These are Consolidated Sales Nintendo is providing. Here's the breakdown.

Japan - 830k from Dec8-Dec31
US - 1.32m from Nov18-Dec31
Other - 900k from Nov30-Dec31
Total - 3.06 Million Combined Sales

The NPD numbers only indicate 935k sold in the US as of January 30th. You're sure your numbers are "sold" and not "shipped"?

I'm pretty darn positive.

Did you know NPD doesn't track Toys-R-Us, Walmart, Sams Club, South America or 40% of the remaining US market?

Thanks to you and everyone else for the info; I found out that the Wii sold 5.84 million in the first 4 months, so 3/4 of that is ~ 4.38 million in the first 3 months. So the Wii U lags behind the Wii. Anyone want to crunch numbers for other systems?
