Why are the wii u sales so low in the US?

#41Dr_FacerPosted 2/17/2013 5:38:14 PM
I think it's something like this:

Nintendo: Hey, want to buy the Wii U it has a gamepad with a touchscreen!

Average person: No thanks, I already have a Wii and a tablet, no need for a touchscreen now.

Nintendo: But it has High Definition graphics for the first time ever on a home console!

Average person: Huh, kind of like my PS3/360?

Nintendo: Yes, look at the graphics of this launch games! *Shows Arkaham City and Assasins Creed 3* They're better than the other consoles!

Average person: Huh... they look about the same as in my PS3/360, and those games are kind of old.

Nintendo: But we have Mario! *Shows Super Mario Bros U* Look, it's Mario!

Average person: Yeah, I played that like fifteen years ago. Anything new?

Nintendo: It will have a 3D Mario and Zelda soon!

Average person: that sounds ok, when are you releasing them?

Nintendo: In about 8 to 12 months. But look, the system has Google maps!

Average person: So does my smartphone, and Google maps is more useful on the go.

Nintendo: It has a web browser!

Average person: My smarphone, tablet and PS3/360 also have a browser.

Nintendo: The system will have a TV support to stream videos!

Average person: my PS3/360 can do that, too, and I can also do it on my laptop.

Nintendo: Huh... It has the virtual console!

Average person: Oh yeah, I bought some games for the Wii, no need to buy them again thank you.

Nintendo: No, you can bring the content of your Wii to the Wii U

Average person: I'd rather just plug the Wii again. No need to buy a new console to play those old games.

Nintendo: You're not buying the console, are you?

Average person: No, not really, no. Good bye.

I thinks it's a combination of a few factors.

1. The system really doesn't have a must own Nintendo title.
2. The advertising was pretty poor.
3. Most people I talked to thought it was a tablet controller for your Wii.

It's the worst advertisement I've ever seen. Whoever is running their advertising dept should be fired

Because Nintendo wrongly thought they could aim for the hardcore gamers again. It seems they completely forgot the Wii sold a lot thanks to casuals. Hardcore gamers abandoned Nintendo during the SNES era.

No. Nintendo abandoned hardcore gamers (and lots of casuals) in the transition between the SNES and the N64. Nintendo did the alienating. Not the fans. Not the third party support. Nintendo.

I laughed, it's so true. Honestly this is why I haven't gotten the Wii U yet, or really have no interest in doing so for at least a year. Nothing on it I want, anything it has that is good is already on another system I own...the system means nothing to me right now.

Yea? Why is there no hype for this console unlike the over whelming demand for the original wii?

It's because Nintendo made the mistake of calling it the Wii U. Calling it that makes it sound like it's just another hunk of plastic to use with the Wii.

I think the console was premature. They shoulda waited to release it with the final software rather then launching it With beta software and releasing updates here and there

The Sony announcement is being hyped up. I heard about it on the radio today and saw some news broadcast that did a story on it.

The hype machine is gearing up. I hope they don't announce 4D and 240fps games this time just to let everyone down.
