RUMOUR: PS4 to cost 300 GBP at launch.

For some reason a mod saw fit to delete the old topic but overturned it without reposting, so I guess I'll have to repost it myself!

The Times is a proper newspaper, not just some internet rag so at the very least we can be fairly confident that they're not just outright making stuff up.

What do you think this would mean for the Wii U? That's the same price as the Deluxe bundle in the UK, so it could mean very bad things for the already struggling Wii U if the PS4 launches at the same price, especially if it has superior tech inside...

That's probably when Nintendo will do some form of price drop or something.

If PS4 launches that low Sony will most likely be taking a size-able loss on the hardware. And to counter this Nintendo will price drop and nullify the even ground. Simple.

Pricing doesn't work that way. Consoles are always more expensive in the UK than they are in the US.

Sony cant afford a loss per unit or else they will go bankrupt

Just in terms of the international implications:

UK£300 is approximately €350, which would be the European price. Historically, since the Euro was introduced, there has been US Dollar <-> Euro equivalence, so games that cost US$50 cost €50, US$60 became €60, consoles costing US$300 became €300, etc. That means that a price of UK£300 in the UK and €350 in Europe would mean a price in the US of US$350.

That would certainly be an interesting price for Nintendo to have to deal with.

Question is, can Nintendo even afford to do a price drop at this point? They're already taking a loss off of each Wii U console sold & needs at least one of Nintendo's own games to turn a profit.
