Did you drop or cause the thing to suffer any type of impact at all? Is it making a strange noise like grinding or clicking when you power it up?

Honestly, hard drives fail all the time. I have a back up to my back up. Unless you get cloud storage for important stuff I wouldn't rely on it unless you don't care what you might lose.

Try flash memory.
