I know it doesn't upscale necessarily, but is there any increasing in visual fidelity at all when playing, for instance, a game like Xenoblade Chronicles through your Wii U on a 1080p tv? --- Evil always wins because Good is dumb.

the same more or less.

Based on people's observations, many games look better, while some don't as much. Likely has to do with the style of the game, but I've noticed it is mainly involving textures, which the Wii U handles a little differently in comparison to what the Wii hardware does with it. --- http://lazerlight.x10.mx/ - Lazer Light Studios - Home of the MM2 PTC project

No, they are literally the same game but upscaled.

They honestly look worse. The image is so sharp that you can see all the individual pixels/dithering/etc. Plus there is a weird underscan problem where the Wii games have a black border around the outside. --- they have the PC version of Darksiders 2 running on WiiU in 1080 native at 60 fps and full graphics options on. Neither 360 or PS3 can come close -darkjedilink

Hmmm. Thanks for the info guys. I am really wanting a Wii U, but since there seems to be a great dearth of games right now I thought about checking out some games I missed on the regular Wii to tide me over. Not a deal breaker if they don't look better, but I may hold off if they can sometimes actually look worse. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate just looks too fun not to get one soon. --- Evil always wins because Good is dumb.

They are upconverted, but you know what they say about polishing a turd...

When playing Wii Games on Wii U. Turn the Wii U resolution to 480p (native Wii Res.) and let the TV do the upscaling. Consoles are almost always worse at doing upscaling than TV's.
