I'm not sure whether I follow the same sentiment or not. I know that the video game rubberband is gonna finally snap back after being pulled too tight for too long, but I don't think that it will be a huge crash like he is saying. The biggest problem is the rising cost of video games and the absurdly large sales needed to break even.

I do find this funny considering people have been doing this whole song and dance about Nintendo since 1990. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_E2lh1lgmk.
Also note, Cliffy B also predicted that the Wii would basically fail back in '06 also. Look how that turned out.

These days, all the kids are playing M rated games while the adults are lining up for Pokemon. Which game is a kid's game now?

Yeah, software only, that makes sense. Except it doesn't because Nintendo will never go software only.

Had a Street Fighter signature for four years, but Crapcom doesn't deserve such recognition anymore.

I don't deny that the industry will see some hardships. I think the sales will scale back a ton as the huge flux of casual gamers realize they don't want anything to do with it anymore. Console sales will suffer, but I doubt ANY of the major players will drop out, especially Nintendo.

What I find particularly funny about this is that it's Cliffy B doing the talking, here. Few companies have done as much to exacerbate the problem of rising development costs as Epic, who've spent the last eight or nine years browbeating hardware manufacturers into upping their hardware capabilities so Epic could sell more Unreal Engine licenses to developers struggling with new hardware.

This is sort of like a Shell Oil executive suddenly becoming very concerned about global warming as soon as he leaves the company...

In the other article he was saying consoles in general are going to have a hard time competing with the versatility of PCs and iPads. This one gutted out a lot of what he was saying about needing to be developer friendly, and mentions of the eShop being that to indie developers.

I agree with what he's saying about the state of the industry in general. But I don't think he understands how much money Nintendo makes off of portables. They have plenty of breathing room even if WiiU ends up being a VB level failure.

Polite conversation should never include Politics, Religion or what constitutes an RPG.
Playing a game for it's story is like watching porn for it's story.

It is Gamespot after all...
Doesn't surprise me to be honest.
