Gamers aren't ready for F-zero. Miyamoto makes games ahead of their time

You've had great success in your ability to predict what players will find fun to play. Have there been games that you thought would be fun but didn't turn out that way?

Yes, that has definitely happened. In the past we've worked with some outside development houses on titles like F-Zero and Starfox and let me just say that we were disappointed with the results. Consumers got very excited about the idea of those games, but the games themselves did not deliver. And, well, to be honest with you, Zelda: Twilight Princess is not doing very well at all in Japan. It is very disappointing. But it is doing okay here in America.


F-Zero GX barely broke 100K copies in Japan alone. And it sold under 300K in America. I know the gamecube wasn't the most popular console, but that's pretty ridiculous. This was the game Miyamoto labeled as a 'true evolution" of the franchise once it was completed.

No wonder F-zero is dead. It didn't sell. And you can sure as hell bet that if we get another game, that it will be altered heavily to appeal to a broader audience.

I think with a Fire Emblem Awakening approach, it could really help F-Zero out. I loved how incredibly rewarding the game was, but it's super hard to pick up. The controls are not necessarily complex but they require a lot of time getting used to really handle your pilot with perfection.

The fire emblem approach might work. Starve gamers to raise hype a bit more. Then finally give us a trickle.
