EA: Consumers 'enjoying and embracing' microtransactions

"We are building into all of our games the ability to pay for things along the way; to get to a higher level, to buy a new characters; to buy a truck or gun or whatever it might be," Jorgensen said. "And consumers are enjoying and embracing that way of business."

Listening to this makes me physically ill. Paying for things along the way. That's just what we need. In-game, there's a prompt asking us if we want to spend $5 real dollars for something. Now there's actual marketing in video games. Video games will now be used solely for that kind of marketing. EA better go under soon. If it doesn't, I might try to get it under by myself.

How has EA not gone the way of THQ yet? Didn't TOR severely compromise investor convidence....why haven't they gone out of business?

What you guys think? I'm all for reasonably sized and priced DLC but I don't think Nintendo in particular is missing all that much without the mindset of these guys, wow........

lol, then why is EA canceling Dead Space 4 due to the awful sales of Dead SPace 3?

i cant imagine that people want to pay for a 60 dollar game that buggers them to pay for micro-transactions.

EA is scum.

Unfortunately it works.

People would rather throw away 100 x $1 than 1 x $60 because we're bad at value judgements as a species.

This. Buying anything in ME 3 or DS 3 multiplayer with real money is an absolute rip off.
But mostly I don't mind DLC.
People who say "It should have already been in the game! *whines*" that's not always true. In some cases it is, and you just have to be smart and not purchase it. But an excellent example of a game that does DLC the right way, is Fire Emblem Awakening.

Not right away. Fire Emblem has been out for over a year.

I'm sure they probably are, there's a lot of people with soup between their ears in the world. But hey, what do I know? Gimme a buttered roll, a container of coffee and a game of Space Invaders and I'm good.
As long as you're in my house, you'll do what I do, and believe what I believe. So butter your bacon... and bacon up that sausage, boy.
