berenddebeerPosted 2/27/2013 6:49:11 AM | I don't own a wii U.
I played the wii U for 5 minutes in a shop. Crash course.
The pad felt really good for some reason. I'm currently in love with my 3ds XL, and I get the same vibe from the pad. Quick taps to select stuff, similar menu interface.
So,
I wanna know from wii U owners how you feel about the gamepad and how it influences your experience.

Zozzilla_MkIIPosted 2/27/2013 6:56:14 AM | I think it's really comfortable. I have man-hands so it feels good in my grip, not too light and not too heavy. The touchscreen can be a little unresponsive, but that's only down to it being a resistive one. Not really a big deal. --- http://i48.tinypic.com/bwym0.png ~ by Dante_destroyer http://i50.tinypic.com/affyap.jpg ~ By itachi15243 |
digiblasterPosted 2/27/2013 6:57:06 AM | It's brilliant IMO, honestly one of the best controllers I've ever used.
I think a lot of the naysayers haven't actually used it, or are too stubborn to admit that their initial perceptions were actually wrong. It's light and surprisingly comfortable, and I could easily play for hours on end with it.
The biggest thing, of course, is the gameplay options it opens up. It's hard to put into words, but playing Nintendo Land really shows off what it can do to mix up gameplay. Games such as Mario Chase wouldn't be possible without the GamePad (okay, it would, but it'd be boring as hell if you could just screenwatch to find the person you're looking for).
Then there's the other big perk, off-screen play. I've not used it much recently, but when I visited my parents over the holidays, I could still play Wii U on the GamePad screen while everyone else watched TV. I have my own TV at my place so I don't need it any more, but if you have to share a TV it'll be really useful. --- Yeah, that's a problem games had back then. You actually had to get good at them. - Mctias |
userfrigginamePosted 2/27/2013 7:11:40 AM (edited) | So, far the only game I've really played so far is NSMBU, so I only used 2 of the 4 buttons on the right, and the D-pad so far, while sometimes using Z. I can say that it feels good so far, however when it comes to using the sticks, it might feel kinda awkward, since I'm used to playing with the sticks inside the D-pad and 4 buttons instead of above them. Other than that, the size of the controller didn't make it any harder to use it, contrary to my previous beliefs before I even played it. Also, I did think that you could go a farther distance away from your TV and still play a game where you didn't need both screens, but it stopped connecting after exiting my room and traveling a few steps thru a hallway. |

perfectlydark1Posted 2/27/2013 7:29:44 AM | Im finding th controller comfortable, but slightly harder to get used to than i expected. Ive only had it a week and no complaints. Having the R stick above the buttons is fine but originally i was reaching for the wrong place! And I do find myself pressing B instead of A and backing out of menus from time to time, even though im comfortabe with the snes layout. Basicaly im finding less intuitive than the cube, but it'll be fine with practice. --- Brawl: 5198 7287 4837 GoldenEye: 2606 8075 1968 |
tizzywilkillyouPosted 2/27/2013 7:37:18 AM | berenddebeer posted...Sounds good. So, how comfortable is off screen play? Off-TV play is great; potentially the best feature of the Wii U for those who share TVs with people. (I have multiple in my house but it's frowned up on to hole myself up away from the familiy for gaming). |
Rasputin77Posted 2/27/2013 7:40:36 AM | As far as functionality goes, it's brilliant. From the concept of one person having a different gaming experience on the pad while the other players work from the big screen, to the camera capturing player reactions, it's very innovative.
Since I put a screen protector on mine, I have noticed some lack of sensitivity... I've had to double tap / triple tap things on several occasions in order to activate them, but I guess I can't entirely blame the pad for that. Also, I always pop it back into the charging cradle, so I never have power issues.
And having a little, portable porn machine... ERRR, I mean, heh, "internet device"... to browse the web and watch Netflix on... it's very, umm... convenient. ;) --- GameFAQs defintion of 'White Knight': Someone who made you realize you can't handle valid points or honest opinions if they come from certain posters. |
BoomerTheGreatPosted 2/27/2013 7:42:49 AM | The best controller to date. Its so comfortable and light. Very few controllers fit in my hands great (because they are wide). Off-Tv play is the best gaming experience so far IMO. I believe it is just going to get better and better. --- Greatness comes from within |
monkeyspoonPosted 2/27/2013 8:06:12 AM | The WiiU gamepad isn't bad. It does feel a bit unnessary for some games and that's when it feels bulky and would be better off as a standard gamepad. Mainly action games. Id prefer a standard gamepad like the black one in the zombiu pack.
The battery life is awful. --- PSN ID: monkeyspoon, XBL ID: monkeyspoon, Nintendo Network ID: monkeyspoon. Can't wait for the PS4 to be released. That's when the next gen really starts. |
