I guess he had an "arm injury" when he was making Smash Bros. Brawl as well.

Metroid Zero Mission and Super Metroid are some of the finest 2D games ever made and are the best in the series.
Metroid Fusion is pretty cool I guess.

It's been made aware that he's had these problems for a while now. It's better for him to rest and take it slow than push himself and risk health issues to get the game out earlier. It's gonna suck for all your fanboys but seriously, someones health is way more important than when you get the next SSB game.

Not to make light of the situation, but is Sakurai doing all the coding and play-testing himself? Namco's assisting with the development, for crying out loud! How can one man's arm injury, even the project director's, slow progress that much?
