Does Nintendo even consider MS and Sony as competition?

#1blablablax17Posted 2/28/2013 12:06:36 AM
MS and Sony have been neck and neck for several years now, and share about 80% of the same games.
Meanwhile, Nintendo just does its own thing, paying them no mind. Not that thats a bad thing.

Are they even competing with anyone really?

One look at the eShop and you know Nintendo is completely out of the loop when it comes to their competition.

Gaming in general competes with anything that takes your time so yes. Talking about it a little deeper though, yes they're competing with Microsoft and Sony and have said and done many subtle things over the years to derail the competition, such as releasing Monster Hunter Tri G the same week as Vita in Japan and emphasizing glasses free 3D in 2011 for 3DS when Sony was pushing 3D TV's and PS3 3D functionality. With that said, they've already stated in interviews that the immediate threat is apple, which has consumed a huge portion of the handheld and casual market in all regions.

80% of the same games? More like 97%

I really wish I bought a PS3 instead of a 360 because the only exclusive I cared for is Halo and I'm tired of it. But it's too late now, I don't think it would be worth it just for the PS3 exclusives I may or may not like.

I think of it this way.

Nintendo doesn't consider Sony and Microsoft as competitors because Nintendo does their own thing, selling games and hardware, and making money doing that. Sony and Microsoft consider Nintendo as their competitor because Nintendo is making more money in the game industry than they are.

Just pick up a used one for ~100. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of Demon's Souls, Tokyo Jungle and the Atelier series. Then there's Valkyria Chronicles, Hyperdimension Neptunia, Journey, Disgaea, Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid 4, the rest of this list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:PlayStation_3-only_games
And the fact that the PS4 won't be backwards compatible..

"Does Nintendo even consider MS and Sony as competition?"

Nope lol!

If you look at what N does with that in mind, then most of what N does makes so much sense.

Notice I said "most"... some of the stuff N does is just whacky jacks.

Anytime that any of the big three says they don't care about what the competitors are doing is a lie.

Of course they watch each other. They are all still capable of stealing business from each other. Nintendo is on a different page in hopes that their innovations will trump the competition. It's really just an excuse for weaker technology.

I remember them saying once that they don't simply compete with MS and Sony, copying them and trying to outdo them, they just do their own thing regardless of what they're doing. That was probably just PR nonsense, but officially the answer is no.

Yeah, that's a problem games had back then. You actually had to get good at them. -Mctias
