I am thinking about getting a WiiU to use in a room with no TV. What's additionally crazy about this is that the main reason I want one is for drawing. (but games too. After all I was considering getting a Vita but if this WiiU idea works out then I won't really need a Vita.)

So for all I know not only may this not be possible, but the WiiU may not be good for drawing. But getting a WiiU is one way to find out. Plus there are always backup plans:
a) hook it up to the TV to calibrate it, then remove it and never hook it up ever again. (Assuming the TV is only needed when you first get the WiiU)
b) I can get a cheap TV or monitor and use it only when needed, or maybe I'll change my mind and use the TV all the time.
c) I can sell the WiiU.
d) I can give in and leave it hooked up to the TV, and still decide to keep it as a console.
With these backup plans it helps ensure that whatever ends up happening it won't be a total loss.

The majority of Wii U's really good first party titles won't be playable without a TV. The entire point is to have two screens, and while ports from other platforms may only need one, you can bet that Nintendo will try their hardest to get as much use out of the double-screen feature as possible.

Just a heads up, since far too many people seem to think that off-TV play is an omnipresent feature.

You'll be able to play NSMBU, Wind Waker, and some other stuff, but you really should get a little TV to go with it.

this is your only real option.

90% of games can be played off screen. Actually zombiu is the only one that comes to mind that you cant. People make amazing drawings on wiiu but I have no idea how. Mine suck and theres not much in the way of options. Im sure drawing programs or games will be released however. You can do pretty much everything off tv so you should be good to go.

You can also add Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate to that list as of April. They are releasing a patch to allow cross-region play and Off TV Play.
