What will the graphics gap be like

The PS2 and DS sold over 150 million each. Combined with the sales of Wii and PSP, and the rapid success of the 3DS....I'd say you are extremely mistaken about what sells. And if anything, the demand for more powerful hardware by certain companies and fanboys is just a smokescreen for the real stagnation in gaming.

The PS2 wasn't so grossly underpowered that it could barely hold its own against the previous generation of consoles..

But it was underpowered enough to be noticeably graphically inferior versus the Xbox and Gamecube.

So many delusional comments ITT. Wii U is is in the same sorry position the Wii was in. Have fun missing on out on every AAA multiplat game once again.

cause we all have to stick to only one gaming console right ??? Oh look what's that, there's a ps3 an Xbox 360 and a wii u in my living room hmmmmmmmm..

If anything, your the one that's gonna be missing on some good Nintendo exclusive games since you have that "my console is better than yours" mentality.

Sure, but nowhere near the gap we've seen in other generations, and many aspects of it were still similar enough to its competitors. The real issue is when a console is so weak that it's more comparable technologically and graphically to the previous generation than it is to other consoles in its current generation, as was the case with the Atari 7800 in the third generation, or the Wii in the seventh generation.

launch title on ps4. pretty much sums up this topic.

nothing even remotely close on wii u/360/ps3 graphics wise.

Imagine a next gen Monster Hunter using that same Capcom Panta Rhei engine.

This argument doesn't make a lot of sense considering the Wii U hasn't even had a single one of it's actually next-gen from the ground up first/2nd party games released as of yet. Almost every game on Wii U so far is simply ported from 360/ps3 or based on older game engine. Once developers actually begin to take advantage of the Wii U then we can see how close it can come to PS4 or 720. Personally I dont think it will be that big a deal but I know how people on the internet like to overexaggerate how great the difference is between getting 30 fps or 32 fps etc. in side by side comparison videos so I guess it really depends on what standard you are using to compare.

The PS2 wasn't so grossly underpowered that it could barely hold its own against the previous generation of consoles. The Wii also never rose above a minority of market share during the 7th generation, so clearly weak hardware was never the primary focus for consumers or developers in the console market.

And that sums up why so many developers went out of business since they couldn't be bothered to develop modestly. Too much obsession with power and realism for their own good. Case in point:

And if it doesn't sell enough to break even, what then? What will you do if these PS4 games are commercial disasters?

Somewhere between the gaps of;

Xbox 360/PS3 - Wii

and,

Gamecube/Xbox - PS2.

So it will be there, and it will be noticeable, but between the gap being a little smaller and having HD (which was the most noticeable thing about the Wii), things shouldn't be quite so bad.

Once again. If you are arguing about graphics quality and do not own a high end PC, you are the equivalent of a bum arguing with another bum over which one of you has the cup with the most change in it.

If I had room, I would sig this.
