By the time it'd finish downloading, I could walk quite casually to GameStop, walk just as casually back, and beat the entire game.

Well, that's faster than it goes for me.

AC3 took literately days because it kept shutting off even though I turned off that feature manually AND clicked "finish downloading."

Not really. I always found games on the Xbox Live Marketplace cost more than they did retail. The same on the PSN. I can buy Far Cry 3 cheaper retail, from online stores and possibly offline, than I can on the PSN.

There's one thing I love about Steam, and that's games are cheap, and are usually the same price as they are retail. On Xbox Live and the PSN, I've always found they can cost up to £10-£20 more.
