[Newbie] So my TV Only Supports Up To 720p Would it be

#1Dragon_Of_dEastPosted 3/19/2013 10:34:32 PM
Better to set it to 1080p? I've notice some frame drops / lag during offline play of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate so I was wondering if this have anything to do w/ the resolution.

Anyway if my TV only supports up to 720p should I set the Wii U to 1080p? Which would be better for MH3U...

Thanks.
Sorry I just bought the Wii U to play Monster Hunter.

If your TV only supports up to 720p, then 1080p is not an option. Your TV will either not show anything, or show a mess that isn't feasible to use under any circumstances.

Ignore the guy above lol.

No it is not a good thing to have a 1080p signal if your TV can only display 720p. There will be noticeable lag due to the signal being converted from 1080p down to 720p.

My mistake. My TV only handles 1080i and 480p, and when given a 1080p signal, it screws up, and a 720p signal doesn't show at all. It is kinda old, so I guess it doesn't have the upscale/downscale capability in it.

Upscaling is a lot better than downscaling, in terms of lag.

In any case, your TV natively displays 720p, so put it on 720p. You'll get the best picture quality that way.

I need to pick up a CRT HDTV, but they're so rare now.
