I found the Wii versions to be better than the gamecubes because of being able to use the Wiimote. Does pikmin 3 support the Wiimote? Id prefer to use that over the clunky gamepad.

Yes, they confirmed that both (gamepad and remote) are supported.

Look near the bottom of "Gameplay".

Great.

Although the gamecube controller also feels great.

And didn't Miyamoto say something about the map always being used?
So I guess you need the gamepad even though you play with wii remotes?

I believe he said that if you play with the gamepad, the screen will always display the map, and show you were your captains are (there's 4 now) and treasures (fruit).
It will also show you a high-speed replay of your day at the end of the day, so you can see how you could do better.

I don't know if it's "mandatory", but it certainly sounds helpful.

I'm one of those people that prefer the gamepad over the remote, so it really doesn't matter to me.

I own both the gamecube version and the wii version, both are fine.
The wii version is a little easier though.

But one the Wii versions, both the left-stick and the c-stick are mapped to the same stick!
You can't move your captain in one direction while directing your Pikmin.

No, the pointer only lets you "throw" Pikmin.
To command the Pikmin group at once (aka swarming), you hold L (nun-chuck) and use the ONLY thumbstick (the one that is default-ly moves your Captain)

Boy, what an optimist.

No matter how much you dislike Mario and/or Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong saved the video game industry. If Donkey Kong and/or Mario had not come into the industry when they did, there would be no video game industry.
