Amazon, Asda, ShopTo and GameStop have all taken a hit by introducing a 50 Wii U price cut, but the console is apparently still underperforming and some retailers may look to reduce shelf space dedicated to the product.
One source described as a top buyer at one of the UK's biggest games retailers told the latest issue of MCV:

"Currently Nintendo has not lost space, but their mix of sales is down. We are looking to reduce slightly but must admit their silence on strategy is deafening at the moment. They've got to do something otherwise it is GameCube all over again."

Understandable really. Its not the price that is the issue its the lack of software.

Again:

1) Hardly any advertising
2) No games to sell the system

They really need #2 to help with #1. Price cuts will hardly matter, unless it's drastic.

A sale isn't an "unofficial price cut."

It's a sale.

It's worth knowing that Gamestop owns Game on the highstreet and at Game it's 40 off and the delux bundles are as low as 289, they were 329 a week ago.

Too early to say it isn't working imo.

A perminent sale across several unrelated retailers then? Call it what you want. The Wii U is 50/40 cheaper and will be for the forseeable future.

Price was never the real problem. No games were released since the price cut until the last day or two.

I said this in another thread. You can lower the Wii U to 50 bucks and it still wont help sales. People think the 3DS sold on the price cut alone. No.

Why do gamer's buy consoles. Games. Not specs (these help). Not price cuts (these only help push systems when you HAVE games). The 3DS' price cut came just before Nintendo's first big game push. On top of a price cut? Yea...it's going to sell. Then another price cut, and more games? It sold more. Now it's getting even more games, and it seems to have the prefect price point for now.

The Wii U isn't in the same boat. The console is selling at a loss for one (like the 3DS, but this is a console...much lesser appeal). A price cut wont help the company, or the stores 3 months into the consoles cycle. Nintendo needs a big game push. E3 will be the first telling story of this consoles fate. It wont be THE telling story, but if Nintendo want's to get rolling before the other consoles, E3 is the time to do it.

Also, equal the prices across the board. If it's 350 in the US, make it equal out to 350 across sea's, or close as possible.

What it comes down to is games, though. What do we call ourselves? Gamer's? We game! Without games we just have a box to stare at. /shrug

It's not permanent, and it's only in the UK. It's a sale.
