Video games are toys

Seriously, I can't understand how people get so heated about them and can be so incredibly nasty about a hobby designed purely for having fun. It's like people were talking about politics or religion or something...

It's not like toy companies don't screw up things either.

I'm fairly new to the forums and I guess I'm just surprised at the amount of venom on here and on gamespot. I've always had my own preferences but I've never hated any company or console producer. There's something very silly about it.

Yes and no.

Here is a video explaining why humans play games (of any sort)
And if they can be called "toys."

As far as your actual point.
I have no idea why people get so worked up over video games, the rivalries.
It may have started with Sony's "We do what Nintendon't" advertising campaign decades ago.

Honestly, I think that humans are inclined to rivalries, regardless of if it's politics, sports, religion, national-identitiy, race, gender, sexual-oriontation, or even corporate brands such as Coke-vs-Pepsi, Mac-vs-Windows, Nintendo-vs-Sony.

I think that the best example is the gameplay-mechanic "Red vs Blue".
Both teams are identical (aside from easily recognizable colors) and they just fight.
Everyone wants to be on the "winning team".

It is quite amazing. We spend hundreds of hours on the internet, fighting over which plastic box is "the best".
Poor petty humans.

Is football a toy?
Is your cell phone a toy?
Is your computer a toy?

Pretty much, yes. It's something you use for enjoyment. It may enrich your life, but it's not vital to it.
