If Nintendo was ever in danger of stopping making consoles

Only if it was somehow a game that only could be on the console, like if it required the Wii remote in some way. A console-only full Pokemon game would greatly increase sales of the console, but even more greatly decrease sales of the game. Believe it or not, that would be a net loss for Nintendo. They'd actually be better off releasing it on a handheld and then using the profits to support the console.

^No you wouldn't. Back during the Pokemon rumors (before the 3ds game announcements) people were drooling over the idea of Pokemon Snap 2 on many Internet boards.
