I've seen repeated instances on this site and even elsewhere of derision to the idea of turn-based JRPGs.

Well, as I was saying, it's the attitude of console gamers who can't stand games that aren't real-time with non-stop action.

Nope.

Lost Odyssey was the last real turn based game on consoles. The reason why it flopped is because it was on the ShooterBox420, where JRPGs go to die. That system is all about the shooters. The reason why Japanese developers thought that turn based games are no longer popular is because at the beginning of the gen, the 360 was getting all the JRPGs, and Japanese people HATE the 360, and I do not blame them. So, that seems to be the main cause.

Xenogears >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Xenoblade

Doesn't NIS still release turn-based RPGs on a regular basis? Or do they not count because they are "weeaboo loli pedo gamez"?

Pretty much the last part.

Don't understand why we can't have new games like Xenogears, FF7-10, or even Lost Odyssey, but instead we get all these Atelier Panty games or Hyperdimension Neptunia.
It's freaking ridiculous.

You're going by the GameFaqs boards which are full of drooling little kids that play Call of Duty? Really??!

Anyhow, does Xenoblade get any better after 3-4 hours? I know the combat probably doesn't change, so I will probably end up disliking the combat the entire way through.

You get more combat options as you get more party members. Some of them have terrible AI though so they're only useful if you are controlling them. As for the story it's okay for a JRPG. The areas you go through get better except for a set of generic looking areas 60% through.
