Why does everyone want Nintendo to "lose"?

I don't get it. Everytime Nintendo releases new hardware, some gamers prance around gleefully hoping and declaring this will be the time the company folds. Why? What sort of pettiness motivates a person to derive joy from the idea of a business failing, more poignantly, a business these specific people have no personal investment in?

More confounding though, why bother even trying to call it early? When PS1 overtook N64, people said Nintendo was done for. That was SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO. During the lifecycle of the GameCube, everyone said Nintendo was done for, there was no way Nintendo could turn their fortunes around... aaaaaaaand then they did, with the Wii raking in gobs of cash and demolishing the competition. And yet as the Wii started winding down, here come the doomsayers again proclaiming Nintendo's emminent demise. Then Nintendo releases the 3DS; rough start, bad sales, near-instant price drop, and Nintendo once again inevitably done for with no hope of redemption... which they once again manage to pull off.

So now we have the Wii U, with its history-repeating bumpy start. Have you doomsayers not learned anything? At the very least, you owe it to yourselves to keep your collective mouth shut and wait to see what happens, rather than play the part of the fool once again for the seventeenth year in a row.

Because of idiots and trolls that hate Nintendo just for the sake of hating them, just like the ones that will eventually plague this topic.

The long and short of it is so the whiny babies who don't want to buy a "kiddy" Nintendo console can play Mario and Zelda on their "big boy" console.

These days, all the kids are playing M rated games while the adults are lining up for Pokemon. Which game is a kid's game now?

Some are just trolling, some want reassurance their platform of choice will do well.

It's what children do. And the sad thing is they're not physically children, they've just never actually matured.

Because Nintendo is bigger and more popular than their console manufacturer.

It's just like all the people who hate Nickelback. They don't really hate them, they just hate that their band will always be in their shadow no matter what they do.

I don't like Nickleback because everything I hear from them sounds exactly the same as their last hit. They have the exact same sound and refuse to evolve their music like true musicians should. I know a lot of bands that do that that are mainstream. It's just that they cater to the working model.

However, to claim Nintendo is bigger and more popular? Umm... that's a bit of a stretch...

Childish jealousy, especially from Sony fans.sony fans are mad that despite Sony copying Nintendo's every move, they've wound up in last place with the PSP, Vita and PS3.

They can't handle Nintendo slam dunking the competition. It's sad.

Because it's "cool" to hate Nintendo. Nintendo is "kiddie" when compared to games like GTA, Gears of War or Call of Duty. So by hating on Nintendo you're "cool".

Plenty of people out there care what people think about their taste in games and such. So anything that can be perceived as childish is immediately written off. Those people will hopefully grow up some day and realize you shouldn't care what other people think.
