"The reason this week was particularly important was the debut of a major new title for Nintendo’s (NTDOY) struggling home console Wii U. Alarm bells at Nintendo’s headquarters must be on full blast, because Dragon Quest X sold just 36,000 units and failed to lift weekly Wii U sales higher than 21,000 units from the previous week’s dismal 10,000 unit level."

It requires an amazing degree of stupidity to not realize that the fact that Vita is starting to pull out of its slump is proof positive that Wii U will recover. People spent well over a year pronouncing that thing to be deader than a dodo.

True enough, Vita did virtually everything wrong with its launch. But now it is starting to recover, thanks partially to a price drop, but mostly due to the fact that it's now been around long enough that it has some games out.

Sales of the Wii U doubled over last week.
Sales of the Vita went down 25% from last week.

You can put all the negative spin you want, won't change the facts.

the vita sold 35k when persona 4 golden, a niche game and also a port was released. the game itself sold 140k in its first week, say what you want but a big franchise like dragon quest selling like that and moving so little units is not proof that it will recover

Meh not really, vita has good hardware, competent online, 3rd party support and great features behind it, wiiU has none of that.

Vita has good hardware, decent online... and no games. Which is kind of important, it being a gaming platform and all.

Hmm, reminds me of when the haters made the "handhelds vs consoles" distinction when the 3DS began improving. Now what do we see? Total hypocrites, the lot of them.
