Super Mario Sunshine was the last super amazing Mario game. It proves that Mario can be something more than just a basic platformer. Then NSMB and SMG were released and proved Mario could NOT be anything more than a basic platformer. Now his games are getting stale more and more each game.

The spinoffs are great though... usually.

No.Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine just didn't have the good level design that you should expect from a Mario game. Galaxy, Galaxy 2, and 3D Land Brought Mario back to what the series is about: Platforming.

same, and I wasn't one of the people who jumped on the hate sunshine bandwagon when it came out. I always thought that both Galaxy games were largely inferior to the N64 game and Sunshine.

My only wish is for sunshine 2 to end up on 3ds though.... the water effects, and FLOOD attachments seem to be tailor made for a 3d game.

Maybe because Sunshine and 64 offered more freedom in the levels and overworlds.
Every level in sunshine and 64 just felt very massive and creative, with many ways to explore, just like a semi-open world game. Galaxy series might be more imaginative, but much much more linear

This.

Also Sunshine's locales were extremely boring. They were all just beaches and oceans.

Metroid Zero Mission and Super Metroid are some of the finest 2D games ever made and are the best in the series.
Metroid Fusion is pretty cool I guess.
