Am I the only one who who doesn't really care...

Whether or not the WiiU crashes and burns? I bought a Virtual Boy back in the day, and I didn't let it's commercial failure sour me on the fact that I had a blast playing it. Of course I'd prefer if it didn't fail catastrophically, but I went into buying one understanding that there was a good chance that it was probably going to die out in a couple years. The reason I bought it was because I knew the cost would be worth it for the games I knew were coming out for it(MH3U, Pikmin 3, ZombiU and SMBWU).

Do people actually buy systems on a whim without considering whether or not their expectations could be met now or in the very near future?

I'm right there with ya. I care more about the enjoyment and fun the console gives ME than care about it's commercial success. I mean just look at the Dreamcast, I still play Dreamcast a couple times a week...it was considered a failure but I would NEVER sell that emmer effer. As long as Nintendo releases their usual great quality first party games I could care less how the console does or how other people think it's doing, I love the WiiU regardless.

But I'm just a Nintendo fan...what the hell do I know about anything?

I would like Nintendo to have at least enough success with this console to justify supporting it with first party games and to really explore the possibilities with their new controller. Do I care whether or not they are successful in comparison to Sony/Microsoft's new console? Not really. Nintendo has always marched to the beat of their own Donkey Congas, and I'm okay with that.

That's why I have other consoles and a gaming PC.

I agree. I mean the reason I buy Nintendo consoles is because I know what I'm going to get out of them. I don't buy the other consoles out of spite, but simply because I don't have enough time to investigate them and their games - much less play them. That and I have more important things to spend my money on. Often times I've even picked something else over a Nintendo game.

I bought my Wii U on a whim and I have no regrets from the moment I started unpacking the system and held the gamepad for the first time. Wii U has a great potential and I do believe that it'll get there eventually. All I know that I already got my money's worth.

Bought the wii for brawl only... got disapointed but project M came and got my money's worth, also tatsunoko vs capcom was a great game, and monster hunter tri.

Bought the wii u for smashbros and monster hunter, they could cancel smash now and I've logged almost 300 hours of gameplay on monster hunter alone, I wouldn't care.

I buy a console for a game I know im going to go back and back again whatever other games I get that give me 1-4 days of gameplay are bonuses.

My gamecube was bought for melee and only got luigis mansion and megaman x collection after that. Melee is the game I've played most in my whole life and that's 22 years of gaming almost every day.

I still play my Dreamcast as much as my other systems that didn't 'fail.' Its library remains satisfying to me even for its short life.

I don't believe the Wii U will die, but it may be a far rougher generation for this console than some are willing to admit.

The Wii U is like the DS when it first launched. Nintendo was at first considering it to be the "3rd pillar" because they didn't know if it would succeed or not. It took a bit, but in time, it flew off the shelves, and because the best-selling gaming device in history. Can the Wii U be the same? Perhaps, but it definitely can't be dismissed this soon.

I still play my GC more than any other system out there with games that I STILL want to get which is why I still have yet to get a PS3, Wii u or even more 3DS games.
