Anyway to buy just the U?

I already have a Wii I don't see why I have to buy another one if I just want to play the new games that require the U

It's a separate console. You'd have to buy the hardware itself for the Gamepad to work. Wii U can play Wii games though.

Trade your Wii in when you're buying the WiiU and then you come out of the deal ahead a U and not another Wii.
