I think they are the same for the most part. Why do you care, either way? It's your money, it's your preferences. You consume whatever you want and let others consume whatever they want.

That's saying that 60% of gamers intend to buy one; that's quite a lot.

Same poll closer to when it came out:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=4907
(Interesting. 52% would "never" get one in the older poll, and that's down to 39% in the newer poll. 13% improvement in just half a year?)

Let's see... 360 just after release:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2203
And more recently:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=4948
(It went from 49% down to 35% for the "never" option. 14% improvement from launch until now.)

PS3 just after release:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2612
And more recently:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=4947
(It went from 46% down to 28% for the "never" option. 18 % improvement from launch until now.)

edit: While I'm digging through these anyway, Wii just after launch:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2575
And the last time it was asked:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=4774
(It went from 60% down to 20% for the least optimistic "no" option.)

Huh... It's interesting to note that the "just after release" polls actually don't say "never" in any of those cases, but rather say "not right now". The only exception is the 360, which is somewhere between "never" and "not now". This is less a matter of calling you out on being inaccruate (although it does account for some portion of the difference, I'm sure), but more an observation of how GameFAQs tends to handle these things. They consistently start with a "not right now" option and later change it to an "omfg never". Strange.

However, it does go to show you just how little difference there is, historically, between all these consoles.

Yeah, it was a quick scan and a summary of the basic idea by comparing the most negative option in each one. I did skip over the distinctions between their phrasing.

"No, I don't plan to get it at all" - 360 near launch
"No, I don't want one right now" - PS3 near launch
"No, I'm not planning to get one now" - Wii near launch

The first two are really negative though. The second one comes across strong because it uses "want" instead of "plan". Don't want. Not interested. It's not even worth considering. Granted, it takes a slight turn back the other way with "right now" tacked on.

The first one does use "plan" but then it has that "at all" tacked onto the end to give it some finality. Not at all. Not worth considering. This one does not have that redeeming "right now" condition, so there is no reconsidering this stance. The decision is final. There is no forseeable future where the decision will not be "no".

The last one is pretty soft by comparison. That one acknowledges that the decision could be reconsidered in the future. It's a "no" right now at this time, and that's all it is. No promises that it will continue to be a "no".

You're right though, the polls several years later do spell out their meaning much more clearly. But by that point... anybody who would have reconsidered probably already did anyway.

Ultimately though, setting aside the exact phrasing of the options and the bias implied in them, I agree that it is surprising how the 360, PS3, and Wii polls kind of followed a similar pattern. According to these polls, some 50% or so (give or take) of gamefaqs users will be solidly against a system when it's new, and 5+ years later that figure will drop to about 30% or less.

Remember this Poll of the Day about PS3 ?

or the 360?

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2203

GameFAQs polls mean absolutely nothing.
