A lot of older gamers I have heard talk about when did gaming go downhill. I have also heard a lot say It has yet to go downhill. Personally, I think it went downhill around 2001, but in the last year, has actually gotten a lot better (this coming from someone who has owned some consoles from the third and forth generation, and almost every one released since then)

SO what do you all think? Did gaming ever go downhill, and if so, when?

When CoD turned FPS games from adrenaline pumping action into Aim Assist BS Cutscene fests.

OMG, player killed five enemies and advanced ten meters. Quick! Throw a scripted event at him then switch character to a helicopter pilot!

Gaming hasn't really gone downhill.
Instead I'd like to say gaming has changed as has the gamers.
I kinda thought that gaming was going downhill a while back. But really it's just my tastes that has changed.
I played The Walking Dead (the Telltales Game) a few weeks back as well as Bioshock Infinite. And both the games were absolutely amazing. And i now consider them both as all-time favorite games together with games like Xenogears, Suikoden II, Final Fantasy VII, Phantasy Star IV, Zelda ocarina of Time & Castlevania Symphony of the Night..
So if you think gaming has gone downhill start looking where you wouldn't have expect to look a few years back (download only titles & First Person Shooters for me).

That's not a gaming specific ruination.

If you think it sucks now, wait and see how much you like it when it becomes self aware and tries to destroy us all.

When CoD went mainstream (2009) and shaped investors perception that unless a game sold 5M+ copies it was an absolute failure. This, in turn, led to developers CoD'fying everything (RE6 etc.)

Two large steps down. One was when the people who mocked gaming started gaming, the other was when the people who mocked gaming started making them.
