I'll just wait until their 30 cent sales to pick up Super Metroid, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong. I will pick up Kirby's Dreamland 3 and Kirby's Dream Course though. If only the 3DS eshop would get Kirby's Dreamland 2 sometime soon. I hope Super Mario RPG releases on the shop sometime soon.

Wow! The Wii U can play 20-30 year old games. Now how about some new ones?

and they are priced at extortionate prices! they are over them in quick succession though!

Can someone help me clarify something regarding playing Wii VC games on Wii U?

I have Mega Man X, Super Mario RPG and DKC2 on my Wii and want to play them on my Wii U using the Gamepad. Do I have to transfer the games over to my Wii U first and then pay the $1.50 in the eShop to do that?

Or can I simply access the eShop and browse a list of games that I have downloaded in the past which can then be downloaded then and there, finishing off with paying the $1.50?

You can't play them on the gamepad until they land on Wii U's eShop. You can play them in Wii mode, but the upgrades won't be available until (or if) they end up on Wii U's VC.
