4:3 vc games can't magically go full widescreen 16:9 w/o being distorted.

Instead of emulating the old systems they could create a new game engine. They're certainly charging enough for these old games to justify putting the work in.

And aren't there already N64 emulators that display in widescreen?

If they create a new game engine, then it's no longer VC. It's a new game and would get released as such (think Duck Tales). I don't understand why people are essentially against playing the original game, which is the point of VC. If you want new game features, go play a new game.

Some N64 games were made to display in 16:9. It required an in-game setting change which would change the aspect ratio similar to the way the original Wii displayed games in 16:9.

Uh oh, here comes the thread ender (i've always wanted to say this). Ready? Here it goes *takes deep breath*......................

WORKS FINE FER MEEEEEEEEEEEE:

1080p widescreen stretched NES

Like I said before, the gameboy player did just fine when it stretched the whole picture to the whole screen.

^ That pic looks butchered. Notice how the characters are all squashed short, yet overly thick/wide? The shiny red balls in the bottom right of your item menu are supposed to be circles, but now they're egg shaped! That's because you've stretched the image out. Some people are okay with that look, as you seem to be.

It's not actually "working" at all for you!

Nice predictable lie you told, fanboy ^_^

Every console before the ps3 era says hi.

EDIT: also, nice predictable butthurt edit after I commented to your comment fanboy xD

^ How did I lie? NES games aren't designed for windscreen. And how does that make me a "fanboy"? Look at those egg shaped red balls in you pic lol

You are complaining about what consoles have always done. Every console before ps3 stretched the image to your tv. So by arguing me, you argue against every console that was ever made before ps3. Laugh out loud at your stupidity.

And the image does not look bad at all. You are overexaggerating because you want attention. But I should expect that because you are 14 :P

^ I ask again: How am I a fanboy? Don't be ignorant bro, check the backloggery in my sig to see I own consoles by all kinds of manufacturers. (How embarrassing for you)

And now you go and assume I'm 14? I'm 30 bro. Look at my profile and you'll see my account was created in 2006, which means if I'm 14 now I somehow created this account when I was 7 years old?!

You don't make any sense bro!

Again, look at the shiny red balls in the bottom right of the item menu of your screenshot and you will see that they are now egg shaped instead of circles because the image is stretched out.

I play my old consoles like Saturn, PS1, N64, etc. on my CRT SDTV at 4:3 ratio. I play my HD consoles on my HDTV at 16:9 since most of those games support widescreen. Make sense yet?

I think you're getting me confused with someone else...not sure where all the hostility is coming from. Maybe you're just mad that your "thread ender" screenshot didn't do squat?

So let me get this straight, there's no option to stretch the games? That's pretty surprising if so, as it's ludicrously simple to implement (and yes, every emulator in existence lets you do it).

Or are people complaining that if you stretch the game, it doesn't magically maintain its old aspect ratio but show more of the game or something. Because that would just be stupid.

Way to not acknowledge how you made baseless assumptions about me being a fanboy even though I own consoles by Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, and Sega....and that you think I'm 14 which means I would have created this account at 7 years old in 2006 lol. DODGE THAT BULLET DUDE lmao

Look, even if old consoles like NES have the image "stretched" to fit a 4:3 aspect ratio, the developers made sure that once it gets stretched to fit 4:3 everything would look correct - for example a circle! They made sure once it scales to a 4:3 ratio on your TV the circle will STILL look like a circle and be displayed correctly. But when you take a NES game that was designed to look normal in 4:3 and then stretch it to 16:9 you will get distorted images...as in circles now looking like eggs.

EXAMPLE:

Look at the blue item box in the top center of the screen in these shots:

4:3 This one has a perfectly square box:

Stretched - this one now has a box that is stretched and no longer as square looking:
