to this day the only game to stump me was baiten katos on the gamecube.

before the internet i would just ask my friends at school for help if i ever got stuck on a level. as for bosses as hard as alot of them were id come back to the game a year later and beat the boss and continue. only boss i could remember being to hard was the final boss blitz in veutiful joe.

everything else from the SNES on wards ive been ok with.

I didn't really game much in the SNES era, pretty much only played SMW and some random basketball game. I started playing games more when I got into Pokemon, starting on gen2.

I just kept playing. RPGs were so much tougher when you didn't have a FAQ to pull up to get you on the straight and narrow. That's when RPGs did take 40+ hours sans grinding. I miss those days not because I liked getting lost but because it reminds me how young I was and how old I am now.
