Wii U failing, or devs too poor to invest?

Certain Dev's don't like having to use the gamepad. There is no off option, the Wii - U would get more third party support if they weren't forced to use the pad.

More and more it seems like developers are too broke to venture into the wild, and have a strong tendency to be a 1 trick pony showing the same game every year but with a different skin.

Hoping the next release they put out won't be the final nail in their coffin.

Or is it because the release time of games is bad timing?
I've also heard that devs don't like using Wii u's hardware because it's different than what they are used to...

I get and understand that ps4 will be the closest a console will get to being a PC, that said I don't think it's the lack of power from Wii u (it's not weak) that's keeping devs away but more of the fact that companies are hard pressed to take risks.

Consoles gain install base by having games players want.
Why is the industry waiting for others to pave the road first?

If it only cost less than a million to port a game then I'm all but convinced developers are insecure about their own product.

And I gues that the wii u port of COD Blck Ops 2 selling less than 200 000 copies when it sells tens of millions on other consoles means nothing? Madden 13 (biggest sports franchise in AMerica) skipping wii u is nothing? Bad sales on all the hardcore games (Arkham City, darksiders 2, Mass Effect 3) means nothing? You know th ewii u is not cheap t port to it can cost a lot of money because of the gamepad. Third party developers gave the wii u a good chance. And it looks like apart from Warner Brs (the next Arham game origins and Injustice) and ubisoft that every third party developer has already given up on wii u. Nothing to do with poor financials (ust look at how rich Activision is) but with wii u buyers who don't care about any game that isn't a casual minigame collection or Nintendo made game. They only have themselves to blame.

Gamer X is whining because game A isn't 80 hours long.
Gamer Y is whining because game B lacks graphics.
Gamer Z because game C lacks online.
Casuals are too f***ing stupid to know the difference from a wii and wii u.
Core gamers are demanding way too much.
Hardcore hold too much price with entitlement.
PC master race is penny pinching like no tomorrow.

IMO
Gaming industry is taking a nose dive into hell like a boss.

Developers need to get their s*** together and make fun games. (Nintendo is already doing this so they are excluded)
People need to get their s*** together and just enjoy games.

lol. What about the myriad of other developers who keep their budgets in check and release fun, profitable games? Examples such as PlatinumGames (kings of the action genre) and FromSoftware (Dark Souls)?

The multiplayer bit is ridiculous though, not every game needs multiplayer.

Short answer:
The industry wants Nintendo to play ball or get **** out.

And what are the rules of this game of ball? Oh wait, there are none, just a bunch of devs throwing a hissy fit because they realized they've dug themselves into a hole due to letting budgets spin out of control.

This. Most of the publishers/developers along with their studios are going to wind up collapsing next gen even more so than this gen (see link below) if they don't find some way to keep their budgets in check, stop overspending on making & marketing/advertising the games, & have better management.

Wow it rhymes mate!

Either way, you can't blame developers for being careful. The economy is very bad nowadays, everyone has less disposable income to spend on games. So its not like the past where buying a game simply means an easy purchase. This is not just happening to WiiU, u will see this even if Xbox 720 or PS4 is launched. If they are unwilling to make games for WiiU, what makes you think they will spend way more to make games for Xbox 720 or PS4.

Harsh, but sadly true...a polished turd is still a turd, but a lot of gamers don't see that. We are at a point where most AAA masterpieces play themselves...they are just cgi movies with some button presses. All the money goes into cosmetics and engines and gameplay gets thrown out the window. New games are so easy to beat. People wonder why COD isn't running on dedicated servers and had the same engine for 7 years. Well they made money and people kept coming back. Devs these days think they are doing the right thing by giving gamers everything they ask for in a game and never think about giving them the unexpected.

It's a sad place we find ourselves in when selling 4million copies of a game means your studio is shutting down. GET BACK TO THE BASICS DEVS...GET BACK TO GAMEPLAY!!!

You're buying into this overspending talk too much. Sure there are stupid devs out there but the fact of the matter is that profit is higher now than ever before. The difference here is that more and more publishers are expecting CoD numbers with titles that have historically sold 3-5M at best. HD development on average has gone down compared to the first 3 years of the current generation.

OFC, Nintendo would like you to believe differently for obvious reasons.

I've always found it amusing how that list is comprised mostly of WESTERN studios. Too many western devs just lack restraint when it comes to money and waste it shallow b.s.. Japanese devs seem to be far more patient, taking a slow but steady approach and using lateral thinking with technology. Seriously, that was Gunpei Yokoi's mantra and should be stamped on EVERY game developers office.
