Microsoft bought rare for nearly $400 million. They aren't letting them go. Besides, the guys that made Rare what it was are long gone.

It's best that Rare remains a 90s memory that had its time and is now gone, like MC hammer or beanie babies.

Although, I would like Nintendo to get back the Banjo franchise.

No, they shouldn't buy RARE, and they shouldn't buy the IP's. What they should do is get members of development team that did Banjo, to create a 'spiritual successor' of Banjo.

To all the people saying Rare is a shell of its former self - You're probably right, but there's more talent to be found out there. If all the stars are aligned properly, magic can happen.

If Nintendo wanted to revive these franchises, they could. If they wanted to make ground-breaking games again, they could. They simply choose not to.

If anything, they should just try to get some IPs back, like Jet Force Gemini and Killer Instinct. I really doubt they would let Banjo Kazooie go without a fight.

But in any case, Retro Studios has for all intent and purposes replaced Rare.

If anything, Nintendo should go for the IP's, not the company.

Rare was never as great as drones pretend. The Rare of Nintendo exclusive days is a myth and legend, fabricated by folks who really had no other "3rd" party to get excited about for years.

Rare's latest games are better than anything the created before.

You must of been born in the late 90s or early 2000s. No good Rare games back then? GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong Country series, Jet Force Gemini, DK64, Banjo-Kazooie & Tooie, Battletoads, Conker's Bad Fur Day & Star Fox Adventures. Wow, that's a whole lot of nothing.

And you talk about Nintendo not having 3rd party support back then, seriously? Nintendo had all the 3rd party support during the NES & SNES eras. Konami, Capcom, Enix and Square released almost everything for Nintendo platforms. At least do some research next time so there's the illusion that you know what you're talking about.

I wish Nintendo would just buy the rights to get these games on VC... Would really love to get rid of my N64 but can't till they do this

At the right price, yes. Rare is a very weak company right now, but they have a backlog of great N64 / SNES games that Nintendo would love to exploit / re-release.

As someone mentioned earlier, buy them for the IPs. With that said, Rare certainly isn't worth anywhere near what Microsoft bought them for.

No. But Nintendo SHOULD gather up the old members and create a new studio with them.
